Vermaak named Cape Chamber of Commerce (AHI) and Die Burger’s Ambassador of the Year

Kevin Vermaak, founder of the Absa Cape Epic, was awarded the Cape Chamber of Commerce (AHI) and Die Burger’s South Africa Ambassador of the Year on Friday evening (16 August 2013) in the Mother City. This award is given to the person who has best built South Africa’s reputation internationally.

Says Kevin Vermaak, founder and director of the Absa Cape Epic: “I’m humbled by this award. I feel enormously privileged to be able to do something that I’m passionate about and this nod from the Cape Chamber of Commerce (AHI) and mainstream media is wonderful. When I started out 10 years ago, it was unthinkable that, in a country where the nation is as passionate about team sports like rugby and cricket, a niche sport like mountain biking could grow as it did. Cape Town as well as the Western Cape have always been the ideal area for the Absa Cape Epic and support from the region has been phenomenal. From my side, I’d like to use this opportunity to thank everyone involved in making the Absa Cape Epic such an exciting and well-supported event.”
