The International Cycling Union (UCI) is constantly trying to open up new ways to offer cycling fans the best ways to follow their favourite sport. Besides television, internet, the social media Facebook and Twitter, and other communication methods, the UCI now proposes an iPhone application. It is one of the first International Sports Federations to offer this possibility.

The UCI application allows fans and followers to obtain the latest results, news and press releases for all cycling disciplines. In addition, videos of UCI events containing exciting moments, interviews and more will be available just a few hours after the end of the competitions in question.

The application is free of charge and can be downloaded from the iTunes Apple Store.

With some 51 million iPhones already sold worldwide the UCI sees this new initiative as an important step in reaching out to cycling fans. As the sale of smart phones has increased by 24% in the last year, the UCI envisages offering the same service for other brands in the near future.

The UCI iPhone application is already available and the number of downloads in the first week has exceeded all expectations. The UCI Mountain Bike and Trials World Championships in Mont-Sainte-Anne (CAN) from 31st August to 5th September will be the first event to benefit from this new coverage.
