After five victories in Kleinmond, multi sport star Dan Hugo is still excited by the chance to take part in the Totalsports Challenge presented by New Balance and REHIDRAT® SPORT. Returning to Kleinmond on Saturday, 14 January 2012 participants can look forward to a sporting experience like no other.
According to Hugo the Totalsports Challenge is more of a lifestyle than a true race. “After five years I am still excited by this event as it is so much different from anything else that I do. Seven toys in one day, it’s the crown jewel in the amazingly fortunate lifestyle that I get to live. I won’t have any major objectives before the race as it’s still early in the base phase. I do, however, often find myself racing some of the two and three member teams as the day unfolds,” says Hugo.
“A seconding team is really critical when taking on the Totalsports Challenge,” continues Hugo. “There is no way without it. My family manage all my equipment and nutrition needs on the day, this is spread across three people and two vehicles. My advice to competitors wanting to go solo for the first time would be to use two vehicles in your seconding team. There’s nothing worse than having your equipment get stuck in a traffic hold up. Most importantly don’t let the beauty of the day slip by unnoticed. The Totalsports Challenge features a fantastic mix of scenery and only the solo entrants get to experience it all”.
