With only 72 hrs to go until the 2014 Absa Cape Epic begins, there will be 1200 excited but nervous mountain bikes in and around the Cape Town area. Have we done enough training? Are our bike completely sorted? Is our nutrition sorted? All these question will be flying around our minds, and all will be answered in the coming 8 days on the bike. For many, some answers will be brutally honest.
I am excited. No doubt that there are some nerves lurking, but the excitement is overriding. Personally I have not had the best build up due to illness but things seem to be coming right. Its been the same story for my partner Craig (who you will hear from in the coming week) who has also been struggling with a head cold for the past 10 days. Things can only get better as the saying goes.
Goals? Well, thinking back on last year, the feeling of getting to Lourensford in one piece was unexplainable, and we hope to do the same this year. Get to Lourensford while having fun should be every teams goal. We have not trained together very much, maybe 5-6 rides, so our partnership is fairly untested. Luckily Craig is a super chilled bloke, so I dont see any issues that a beer or two cant sort out at the end of each day 🙂
Take a look at what Sundays prologue route has to offer:
Its fast, furious and filled with loads of purpose built single track. Meerendal and Hoogekraal will provide the first test for man and machine for the week to come.
