All Systems Go for 2012 MTB World Cup

Ticket sales are open and selling fast for the RockyRoads UCI Mountain Bike World Cup Pietermaritzburg, to be held at the Cascades Mountain Bike Park in less than two months.

Officials are on track to complete renovations to the world-famous facility well in time to be able to welcome the world’s best downhill and cross-country riders.

The Czech Republic’s Jaroslav Kulhavy today showed the large and enthusiastic crowd in Champéry who is the boss of cross-country: after winning five out of seven rounds of this year’s World Cup he confirmed his current superiority in the discipline by becoming World Champion.

In the Downhill race, Great Britain’s Danny Hart gave a masterful demonstration of what downhill racing is all about as he careered down Champéry’s track undeterred by the torrential rain and treacherous conditions that graced the last day of racing at the UCI Mountain Bike & Trials World Championships.

Jaroslav Kulhavy wins his home World Cup XCO in Czech Republic

Jaroslav Kulhavy charged to a solo victory on his home turf in Nove Mesto Na Morave, Czech Republic. With this win, Jaroslav secures himself the World Cup overall title for 2011. Nino Schurter rode to the silver medal, nine seconds ahead of Julien Absalon.

The men’s Elite race was the highlight of the day, with the crowds lining the course in full support of local hero Burry Stander. Stander was in the lead bunch on the first lap, until a fall damaged his derailleur which effectively put him out of contention for the rest of the race.

Tough luck took away the world champion jersey off Nino Schurters shoulders.

Both Nino and Florian kept flat tires from performing the way they wanted. The whole year Nino had not one flat tire during racing. At the most important race of the year he got two. Same for Florian, he got his flat tire on the start loop and was out of contention early.

South African Burry Stander had a phenomenal race yesterday at the World MTB champs in Mont-Sainte-Anne, Quebec, Canada. Jose Antonio Hermida was the strongest on the day managing to get away from Jaroslav Kulhavy who earned the silver medal for Czech and Burry who gave South Africa its first elite cross country medal with the bronze.
