Olympian Richard Murray and reigning XTERRA SA champion Carla Van Huyssteen were on fire in Elgin Grabouw (Western Cape) on Sunday, 24 February 2013 at the TOTALSPORTS XTERRA South African Championship presented by REHIDRAT® SPORT completing the 1.5km swim, 27km mountain bike and 11km trail run first in the men’s and women’s category in combined times of 02hours23minutes02seconds and 02hours51minutes01seconds respectively.
The picturesque Buffelspoort Dam (North West Province) was a hub of excitement on Saturday, 26 January 2013 with 800 multisport warriors toeing the line at the Totalsports XTERRA Full presented by Rehidrat® Sport. Defending men’s and women’s champions Conrad Stoltz and Carla Van Huyssteen came out with guns a blazing. Leaving no room for error, they took the lead early in the race and never looked back, crossing the finish line in spectacular times of 2hr22min52sec and 2hr49min56sec respectively.
Four times XTERRA World Champion Conrad Stoltz and top South African XTERRA Warrior Carla Van Huyssteen were not leaving anything to chance on Sunday, 26 February 2012 when they took on the Totalsports XTERRA South African Championship presented by REHIDRAT® SPORT in Grabouw.
It’s Xterra fever in Cape Town (and South Africa) this weekend. The race just seems to grow and grow, and is now split over two days. I’m not sure why the Shongweni Dam leg in KZN never worked, because they probably have the most extensive off-road multisport calendar (maybe that’s the answer!). Totalsports have taken this over from sister store Due South and have the store footprint to leverage it further.
Reigning 2011 XTERRA Grabouw Champions Dan Hugo (Stellenbosch, South Africa) and Carina Wasle (Austria) will have to keep their wits about them on Sunday, 26 February 2012 when they return to Grabouw Country Club to defend their titles at the 2012 Totalsports XTERRA South African Championship presented by REHIDRAT® SPORT.
Reigning individual men’s and women’s champions, Conrad Stoltz and Carla Van Huyssteen expected nothing less than a battle when they returned to Buffelspoort Dam on Saturday, 28 January 2012 to defend their titles at the gruelling TOTALSPORTS XTERRA Buffelspoort Full presented by REHIDRAT® SPORT.
A new venue served as a fitting place to crown new XTERRA world champions.
The 16th XTERRA World Championship turned into a sweet celebration for Michael Weiss, Lesley Paterson and Kapalua, Maui.
Weiss and Paterson earned their first XTERRA world titles on a new course that was described as both beautiful and brutal. After 15 previous years at Makena, the XTERRA World Championship off-road triathlon moved to the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua this year.
South African Dan Hugo finished a close second, a mere 33 seconds behind Weiss.
“Steve Hofmeyer!” exclaims Conrad Stoltz with a grin after opening up a copy of Alexander Parker’s book, “50 People Who Stuffed Up South Africa”.
“Zapiro is my favourite satirist” he explains, noting the hilarious illustrations of the complexities of everyday South Africa found in this amusing read, which I had bought just prior to our meeting at a Knysna coffee shop.
The Caveman, as he is known, had just finished taking part in the Waterfront Rush, a waterborne obstacle course-cum-adventure race with his fiancé and SA Netball captain, Liezel Wium, and was eager to get warm after a dip in the icy waters of the Knysna Waterfront.
