We got what we were hoping for on this stage as the cobbles really lived up to expectations. It was tough, it was difficult, and we saw a reshuffle in a lot of areas. Thor Hushovd won the stage with Fabian Cancellara regaining the yellow jersey.

Bradley Wiggins wins Giro d’Italia opening TT

Bradley Wiggins (Team Sky) won stage 1 of the 93rd edition of the Giro d’Italia, an 8.4km time trial through the streets of Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

Clad in a white skinsuit sporting the colors of the British time trial champion, Wiggins cranked out a time of 10 minutes, 18 seconds on the wet, technical circuit.

Amstel Gold Race without key riders due to Volcano

Alejandro Valverde (Caisse d’Epargne), Carlos Sastre (Cervélo) and Bradley Wiggins (Sky) are among several riders to have pulled out of Sunday’s edition of the Amstel Gold Race after encountering problems getting flights to the Netherlands.

European air travel has been restricted following a volcanic eruption in Iceland, which has sent a cloud of particulates across northern European air corridors.

Team Sky wins Quatar TTT

Team Sky’s eight-man squad secured victory in the opening team trial at the Tour of Qatar. Sky posted a time of 9:41 on the windy 8.2km course. Tyler Farrar led Garmin-Transitions across the line at 9:49 to take second and Stuart O’Grady drove Saxo Bank home for third at 9:54.
