Evans reflects after UCI MTB World Marathon Championships

A ‘virus’ was the reason why Kevin Evans (MTN-Energade) did not perform as well as he would have liked at the pro-elite race (over 107km) of the UCI Marathon World Championship in St Wendel, Germany.

Evans, who finished 8th overall in last year’s World Championship, was restricted to the 25th position this year.

But he at least has the satisfaction that he was able to play a small part in the victory of his Cape Epic team-mate, Alban Lakata (Austria).

Burry Stander gets Bronze at UCI Marathon World Champs

This weekend saw the UCI Marathon World Champs happening in St-Wendel, Germany. It was an incredibly tight race with the top six men finishing within 10 seconds of each other. South African Burry Stander had a phenomenal race taking home the bronze medal, just 6 seconds behind the winner, Alban Lakata. Italian Mirko Celestino was second.

MTN Energade team riders Evans, Cordes and Speedy speak about the Epic

With the ABSA Cape Epic over for another year, MTN Energade team riders Evans, Cordes and Speedy chat about their respective battles in this years race. For Kevin Evans and teammate Alban Lakata it was a matter of hanging in there over the last couple days to keep their 3rd place overall, while for Yolandé Speedy and teammate Paul Cordes it was sightly less eventful after overcoming a tough first stage to take the mixed team title yet again.

ABSA Cape Epic stage 8 report

The final day of the taxing 2010 Absa Cape Epic presented by adidas saw riders cover 65km and 1 640m of climbing, cycling from Oak Valley to their final destination at the Lourensford Wine Estate. Multivan Merida’s José Hermida and Rudi van Houts were first to cross the finish line in the final stage of this year’s Absa Cape Epic with the Bulls Team of Karl Platt and Stefan Sahm taking the overall victory.

For a 3rd time in a row at this years Epic the Songo-Specialized by DCM riders Christoph Sauser and Burry Stander crossed the line in first place. They completed the tough 27km course in a time of 1:05,15,0 and are now 7 minutes and 6 seconds behind the leaders, having closed the gap for the last three days.

Absa Cape Epic stage 4 report

Winning for a second time in a row, Switzerland’s Christoph Sauser and his South African team mate Burry Stander (Songo-Specialized by DCM) moved into 3rd in the overall standings. Their winning time of 3:33.01 was too fast for 2nd place German Bulls team of Karl Platt and Stefan Sahm who finished in 3:34.24. In 3rd place were the South African/Austrian duo of Kevin Evans and Alban Lakata (team MTN Qhubeka Topeak Ergon) in a time of 3:34.32.
