Kevin Evans and David George win Cape Pioneer Trek

The year didn’t turn out the way they’d planned, but elite South African marathon racers, David George and Kevin Evans of Team Nedbank 360Life secured a tough mountain bike stage race win when they rolled with a sense of satisfaction over the finish line in Oudtshoorn, Western Cape on Saturday to claim a dominant victory at the DCM Cape Pioneer Trek.

Weiss, Paterson win XTERRA World Championship

A new venue served as a fitting place to crown new XTERRA world champions.

The 16th XTERRA World Championship turned into a sweet celebration for Michael Weiss, Lesley Paterson and Kapalua, Maui.

Weiss and Paterson earned their first XTERRA world titles on a new course that was described as both beautiful and brutal. After 15 previous years at Makena, the XTERRA World Championship off-road triathlon moved to the Ritz-Carlton Kapalua this year.

South African Dan Hugo finished a close second, a mere 33 seconds behind Weiss.

Popular junior mountain biker Luke Roberts is eager to make an impression on the Msunduzi Road Challenge cycle race on his road bike and says the race, Africa’s only leg of the UCI World Cycling Tour, is ideally placed in the cycling calendar.

Having recently earned himself an impressive third place finish in A-batch of the Amashova Durban Classic, despite having competed on his much heavier and slower mountain bike, Roberts is now eager to tackle the challenging yet manageable Msunduzi Road Challenge.

SA Road Team Announced for African Continental Champs

Cycling South Africa has selected a strong team to participate in the African Continental Championships to be held in Asmara, Eritrea from 9 to 13 November 2011.

No doubt reclaiming our rightful spot as African Champions will be uppermost in the minds of the riders. The ladies will have an extra incentive as they go all out to rake in maximum UCI qualification points for the 2012 Olympics. Ashleigh Moolman Pasio, fresh from her Amashova victory will lead the charge and will be joined by other Olympic hopefuls, Cherise Taylor, Joanna van de Winkel and Robyn de Groot.

Yesterday (Wednesday, 19 October) Christoph Sauser (Songo.info), Switzerland’s world champion in the mountain biking marathon, set a personal record when he and his partner, Max Knox (Ghost), won the third stage of the DCM Cape Pioneer Trek. David George and Kevin Evans from Team 360Life remain in Yellow.

Sauser and Knox tough it out to take stage2 at DCM Cape Pioneer Trek

By winning the second stage of the DCM Pioneer Trek yesterday (Tuesday, 18 October), Max Knox (Ghost) and Christoph Sauser (Songo.info) proved that you can’t keep a good team down. Kevin Evans and David George from Team 360 Life held onto the leaders jersey after a dominant stage 1 victory.

The winning time for the stage (from Calitzdorp to Riversdale) was 5 hours 23 minutes and 25 seconds.
