Pre-entries close a week from today for the inaugural Msunduzi Road Challenge, the anticipated inclusion into the UCI World Cycling Tour (UWCT) taking place on 29th and 30th October 2011.
Following Cycling South Africa’s recent announcement of winning the rights to stage the Final of the 2012 UCI World Cycling Tour in Pietermaritzburg, the dates have already been set for the 7th to 9th September 2012.
This means that riders in the top 25% of each age group in this year’s Msunduzi Road Challenge later this month automatically qualify for the UCI World Cycling Tour Finals, which will be held here in South Africa once again – a closer chance than most around the world will have of earning coveted World Championship stripes in their respective age categories!
Not only has the Msunduzi pre-entry deadline date been extended to 18 October 2011, but the organisers have added another incentive for our cyclists – the opportunity for entrants to get their entry fee back when they book accommodation in one of the “Official Accommodation Venues” that can be found on the event website www.msunduziroadchallenge.co.za.
This is not just a race for the masters (although the masters will sure be providing a spectacular contest) but for ALL age categories outside of continental and pro cycling teams, who now have the opportunity to enter this prestigious, road cycling first that is happening right here in South Africa! This would especially suit the 16-29 age categories.
But the uniqueness of the Msunduzi is that it is a ‘mass participation’ event as well, and those riders wanting to enjoy spending a morning on their bicycle for a bit of exertion in the beautifully scenic Pietermaritzburg and surrounding area can also enter.
