NEW CYCLING APPAREL SPONSOR ASSOS UNVEILS ICONIC ZEBRA-STRIPED LEADER JERSEYS AT ABSA CAPE EPIC GALA DINNER

ASSOS FASHION SHOW REVEALS NEW LEADER JERSEYS FOR 2014 ABSA CAPE EPIC

New premium cycling apparel sponsor ASSOS of Switzerland, revealed the new leader jerseys for next year’s Absa Cape Epic at a gala dinner held in Johannesburg last night (Wednesday, 30 October 2013).

Says Kevin Vermaak, founder and director of the Absa Cape Epic: “The Absa Cape Epic, which takes place from 23 to 30 March 2014, will boast brand new versions of the iconic Zebra-Striped leaders jerseys that have become synonymous with hard work, dedication and excellence in the sport of mountain biking. These were revealed during the ASSOS Fashion Show, which formed part of our gala dinner celebrations last night. We’re extremely proud of our association with ASSOS, which is the brand of choice for most of our riders. The ASSOS way is to Sponsor Yourself and this ethos will carry through to the amateur riders, who get to race and live alongside the pro riders during the 8 days of the Untamed African Mountain Bike Race.”

According to ASSOS of Switzerland Chief Engineer/CEO, Roche Maier: “We are extremely proud to introduce the newly designed leader jerseys for next year’s prestigious event. ASSOS has always been at the forefront of innovation and was the first company to launch a carbon bicycle back in 1976, quickly moving into cycling apparel, developing the first Lycra bike shorts in the same year. With this rich history in the sport, riders in the 2014 Absa Cape Epic can look forward to decades of experience, technology and innovation when spending long hours riding. Comfort is crucial at the Absa Cape Epic considering that in 2013, riders spent an average of 47 hours in the saddle.”

Maier continues: “The ASSOS goal is to create the finest, most comfortable, functional and durable cycling apparel possible. The kind that serious cyclists – whether professional, amateur or devoted enthusiast – can appreciate and depend on. We wish all riders in next year’s event the best of luck and are confident that comfort won’t be one of their concerns.”

Vermaak concludes: “ASSOS is the ideal partner to our event. We’re closely aligned in terms of superior quality, attention to detail, innovation and maximising rider experience and enjoyment. We believe that next year’s Absa Cape Epic, with its history of champions, will more than live up to its reputation as the ‘Tour de France’ of mountain biking.”
