Construction at London’s 2012 VeloPark is well on track with work now being started on the pillars that will support the roof. Once completed the Velopark will seat 6000 people and with its distinct double curved roof design will provide stunning views of Olympic Park and the London skyline.
After the 2012 games, the velodrome will be used by local athletes for training and racing. It will include a bike workshop, bike hire facilities and a café. There are also plans to build a road cycle circuit, a mountain bike course and a BMX track at the velodrome which will make this a truly world class and diverse cycling sanctuary.
After winning 3 medals in the recent mountain bike world championships in Canberra, Australia, the road to London 2012 is looking very promising indeed for South African cycling.
Here are some more great pics from the construction site.
