Lesotho Sky: The most spectacular MTB race in the Southern Hemisphere

Lesotho Sky is a 500km team Expedition Mountain Bike Stage Race in Lesotho. With 14000m of climbing in the “Mountain Kingdom” over 6 days, this event will blow your mind and your legs…

The Lesotho Sky Event 2011 is the first-ever 6-day Cross-Country MTB event, which takes place in the so-called Mountain Kingdom. This constitutes the launch of the annual Lesotho Sky Event and aspires to be a not-to-be-missedevent on the local and international MTB calendar. Lesotho is an independent state entirely surrounded by South Africa and is easy to reach in only a few hours by car from Johannesburg. Only 40 riders or 20 teams are selected onan application/invitation basis for this special event. The route consists of multiple stages, entirely off road on dirt roads and trails through the Maluti mountain range in the western highlands of the country. The geographic conditions are ideal to attract competitive athletes. Ranging from 1400m to 3482m above sea level, Lesotho is a suitable location for altitude training.  After many successful years of tours and riding in Lesotho we are now launching the first event of this kind.

Sponsors are given the unique opportunity to be part of a world-class event that promotes mountain biking in the mainly untouched terrain of Lesotho, as well as extend their corporate social responsibility through actively engaging in community projects. We are supporting the Ha Matela Youth Centre with bicycles and gear as well as provide funds for learning equipment such as books, laptops and magazines.

The last stage will take place at the site of the Mohale Dam on Friday, 18th November 2011. A scenic route will take the riders around the dam in 60km and about 2500m of vertical climbing – The Tour de Mohale. This last stage is an open invitation for family, friends and the general public to participate in this magnificent ride. Supporters and day riders of the Tour de Mohale need to book their own accommodation at the Orion Lodge at the Mohale Dam.
