Yesterday saw the SA national TT champs taking place in Klerksdorp. The riders woke to great conditions, with the heat and humid weather definitely helping the riders from the coast to adjust to the altitude without too many problems.
Kevin Evans rode a spectacular race to win his first national road jersey on the 38km course. His build up to the race had some niggles with his Eddy Merckx TT frame only arriving a couple days ago. Eddy Merckx’s son in law personally flew in the frame for Kevin, which they borrowed from Team Quickstep as they were the only team in the world with a frame his size. Activeworx then worked overtime to have the frame built and ready for him to do a professional setup once he landed in Johannesburg on Tuesday midday. And the rest is history… James Perry rode strongly into 2nd with JacoVenter in 3rd.
In the elite womans race it was Cashandra Slingerland who powered away to victory over the 30km course ahead of Lilanie Lourens in 2nd and Carla Swart in 3rd.
The road racing happen tomorrow, Friday 18th and one wonders if the mountian bikers can dominate again. I reckon the riders to watch are Burry Stander and Kevin Evans.
