Paola Pezzo was born on 8 January 1969 in Bosco Chiesanuova, Italy, and has enjoyed an illustrious career as a cross-country mountain bike racer.
Pezzo, who now lives in Verona, Italy, won the female World Mountain Bike Championship title in both 1993 and 1997. In 1996 in Atlanta, she won the Olympic gold medal in mountain biking, when the event made its debut. She retained her title 4 years later by winning gold in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. In 1997 she won the Grundig World Cup crown.
It was not only her performance on the bike that won over the hearts of many male fans. She quickly became famous for her incredibly tight, shiny lycra that she wore. Paola, we salute you.

[...] Surprised to see that Paola Pezzo hasn't had a mention yet – one of the best cross country riders ever, 2 times Olympic champion Multiple World champion, European Champion and World Cup winner. Used to insist on having a full length zip on her Italian team jersey, and got more publicity for the sport than anyone else as a result. Used to model Northwave shoes back in the day – I always remember those adverts in MBUK…. made much more of an impact on me as an impressionable youth than wearing a pirahna round your neck… http://www.crank.co.za/happy-friday-…ola-pezzo/1908 [...]

Pezzo’s expression on the podium – while the 2nd and 3rd ogled her holding the flowers up – evinced a kind of “I really enjoy taking drugs and riding my bike fast in the woods with my titties showing” kind of mien.
