Die Burger Cycle Tour takes place on Sunday 29 November at Nelson’s Creek Wine Estate and is the final event in the 2009 Alpha Pharm Seeding Series, the country’s most prestigious road cycling series, and as a result some of South Africa’s greatest cyclists will descend on the Boland this weekend.
Cycling sensation, Arran Brown (Medscheme), winner of the 2009 Cape Argus Pick n Pay Cycle Tour, will be competing in the 97km road distance. Other big names include Hanco Kachelhoffer (Medscheme), veteran Moolman Welgemoed (Daikin-Gu) and 2008 winner David Garrett (Daikin-Gu).
A mighty showdown is expected between top females Jennie Stenerhag (Alpha Pharm) and Anriette Schoeman (Nashua Telecoms). They’ve been competing for first place in the Alpha Pharm Seeding Series since February this year, and Die Burger Cycle Tour on Sunday will be their grand finale.
Mountain bike superstars such as defending champion Johnny Kritzinger (Team DCM Chrome) are expected to make short work of the family-friendly 30km MTB route and a winning time of 1 hour is predicted. “It’s always great to end the year with a nice, enjoyable ride and Die Burger Cycle Tour is exactly that. I’m looking forward to it,” said Kritzinger.
For those who rode the Double century last weekend, Sundays race might be a walk in the park but for those who did not here is some inspiration to get you through the 97km. Good luck and Happy riding.
