FNB Wines2Whales entry to go on auction at Jonkershoek trail building evening

The organizers of the FNB Wines2Whales (W2W) Mountain Bike (MTB) events have continued their support of the Jonkershoek MTB Trail upgrade project by donating a team entry into the 2013 FNB W2W MTB Ride.  The entry will be auctioned at a Trail Building evening in Stellenbosch on Wednesday, 10 July 2013.

According to Chris Norton, Co-Owner BMT Bike Shop, receiving an entry into the FNB W2W MTB Ride is a really generous offer from the organizers of this prestigious event.  “The FNB W2W is one of the most well supported mountain bike events in the country.  I took part in my first W2W event in 2012 and can truly say that it is the most organized MTB event that I have taken part in. The finer details are incredible, even the overseas participants commented on how the event was world class.  The W2W Ride entry will be auctioned at our Trail Building evening.  The highest bidder will win the entry. If someone would like to bid, but cannot attend the evening they are more than welcome to send a representative.  The proceeds raised will go towards the Jonkershoek MTB Trail project.  This project was started by a group of local mountain bikers that frequent the trail.  Bennet Nel is our trail builder and his company is called Ace Of Spades. He is a phenomenal trail builder and has ensured that the trails are maintained and durable, while continuously introducing new and improved trails.  Many visitors and local riders to Jonkershoek have commented on how amazing the single tracks have become and how organised the park is becoming. The trail building has been extremely well received and we know that with this latest event we can really take it to another level and ensure that we build better and bigger rides,” says Norton.

“Investing in route building is very important,” says Michael Meyer, co-director FNB W2W MTB.  “The FNB W2W MTB events start in Somerset West and end just outside of Hermanus.  We take the topic of trail building and trail maintenance seriously.  Each year our routes are improved, while additional routes are added.  With Stellenbosch being one of the mountain biking centers of South Africa it goes without saying that we would want to offer our support.  We are happy that the funds generated by our 2013 FNB W2W MTB Ride entry will be put to good use,” says Meyer.
