Cycling South Africa extends congratulations to 2013 SA National Time Trial Champion Daryl Impey, who has been named by his professional cycling team ORICA-GreenEDGE as part of the starting line up of the Tour de France from 29 June to 21 July 2013.
Impey, who represented South Africa at the 2012 London Olympic Games, will join teammates Stuart O’Grady, Matt Goss, Brett Lancaster, Svein Tuft, Simon Gerrans, Michael Albasini, Simon Clarke and Cameron Meyer as part of a nine-member squad at the 100th edition of the gruelling road stage race.
According to the ORICA-GreenEDGE press statement, Impey ‘will play a pivotal role in supporting the team’s objectives. “Impey is the last guy in front of Gossy in the sprints,” noted Sport Director Matt White. “He’s also quite handy in the medium mountains. We brought him to his first Tour de France last year and have seen him develop into one of the best lead out guys in the world over the last 12 months. He’s an important asset for us at any race.”’
On behalf of Cycling SA, we are proud of Daryl’s achievements and wish him the very best during this arduous cycle tour.
