Can Pretorius improve on her recent performances
Ten days ago An-Li Pretorius (MTN-Energade) finished third in the women’s race of the Carousel Classic and four days ago she was second in the EPR Cycle Challenge.
The question now is whether Pretorius will again be able to go one better and achieve victory during Saturday’s Lost City Classic (21 August 2010).

UCI ProTour team licences: 14 applications for 8 licences
As the result of a ruling passed by the UCI ProTour Council in Birmingham in June, 15 August 2010 was established as the deadline for teams to submit an application to the International Cycling Union (UCI) to be awarded UCI ProTeam (1st Division) or UCI Professional Continental Team (2nd Division) status.

TEAM MTN Energade – The battle for supremacy on local soil intensifies
The battle for supremacy on tar intensified over the past weekend (14-15 August 2010) when the riders of MTN-Energade and Medscheme took their ‘battle’ to the roads of the West Rand during the EPR Cycle Challenge, which finished on the Tarlton International Raceway.
This time round it was Medscheme who took the victory. Arran Brown outsprinted Reinhardt Janse van Rensburg (MTN-Energade) to win the race over 120km in 2 hours 59 minutes and 52 seconds. Kachelhoffer (Medscheme) finished third.

Carlos Sastre to ride for Team Geox in 2011
2008 Tour de France champion Carlos Sastre will ride in Mauro Gianetti’s new Geox team next season. Carlos, who has been riding in the Cervélo TestTeam for the past two years, seems really excited at the prospect of this new challenge.

Jan Ullrich diagnosed with Burnout
Former Tour de France winner Jan Ullrich has been diagnosed with burnout. In a statement made on his website, Ullrich said: “A few days ago, I was diagnosed with burnout, that will probably need a longer treatment. In order to ensure complete recovery, I will therefore stop all public appearances in the next few months.”

Anti-bike vigilante is gluing locks in Williamsburg
No bicycle in Williamsburg is safe.
A longtime neighborhood resident has gotten so frustrated by sidewalks packed with parked bicycles that he has actually begun injecting Krazy Glue into locks as a form of vigilante injustice.
The renegade — whose name has been concealed because of the sensitive nature of this story — has committed the crime a few times, but told us last week that there are plans to broaden the sticky situation.

Potgieter triumphs over the sprinters in tough and windy conditions
Every rider who is prepared to put in long hours of training will eventually have his moment of glory on the winner’s podium.
Bradley Potgieter (MTN-Energade), who won the Carousel Classic on Monday (9 August), can vouch for that.
2010 certainly did not start out well for the young rider. On 5 February, when he was on his way to join his team-mates for a training session, he was involved in a motor car accident.

This tech will make you fast, no matter who you are. A new bike tyre that uses LED technology to create a ring of light and which has been likened to something out of the sci-fi movie Tron promises to provide cyclists with “a unique and unprecedented safety measure.”
