Big names confirmed for new 3-day MTB stage race
A number of leading mountain bikers have secured their entries for the Columbia Grape Escape, the new 3-day MTB stage race taking place from 4-6 March 2011. There are only about 100 available entries left.
Top class riders include David George, Kevin Evans, Karl Platt, Christoph Sauser and Burry Stander.

North South derby at MTN Barberton
One of the most exciting events on the local sports calendar will always be when the Blue Bulls play rugby against the Western Province.
South African mountain biking will have its own ‘north vs. south derby’ on Saturday (29 January) when the pro-elite riders line up for the start of the UCI sanctioned MTN Barberton Ultra-marathon (120km).
David George (360 Life), a born and bred Capetonian, will represent the south and Max Knox (DCM), who grew up in Sabie, the north.

Race Face Re-Signs Free Ride Legend and MTB Hall of Famer Brett Tippie
Race Face Performance Products, a global leader in technical mountain bike components, apparel, and protection, has re-signed mountain bike icon Brett Tippie to a two-year sponsorship contract. Tippie, the pioneer of freeride mountain biking who made his professional debut in 1995 and has appeared in countless movies, magazines, and riding events over the years, has been with Race Face since he entered the gravity cycling scene.

Alberto Contador suspended for a year over failed doping test
So, it seems that it was too good to be true. Tour de France champion Alberto Contador has been told of his punishment for his positive drugs test from the 2010 race, the Spanish cycling federation announced on Wednesday. Spain’s sports media reported Tuesday that the rider may be suspended for one year over his positive doping test at last year’s event.

PE memorial for Swart
Top South African cyclist Carla Swart’s life will be celebrated at a memorial service in Port Elizabeth on Thursday, February 3.
Fellow cyclists are expected to gather at The Boardwalk Casino’s Vodacom Amphitheatre at 4.30pm.

Armstrong’s ex team mate now in yellow with Team MTN Qhubeka
In 2007 Daryl Impey made sure that people took note of the MTN Cycling team when he won no less than 15 races.
The good news is that Impey will be back in “yellow” this year riding for MTN Qhubeka. Both local and international riders should take note that Impey is a rider on a mission. He is going to ride to win because he has something to prove.

Team RSAWEB takes second place in Boland Drukpers
Team RSAWEB took to the streets of Paarl this past weekend for the second race of the Pro Classic Series Summer League – Boland Drukpers Funride. Team RSAWEB had a great showing with both Robert Quinn and Carl Pasio in the top 5. Check out the race report below.
