Cycling South Africa has confirmed the dates for the 2012 National Mountain Bike XCO and DH Series. The series, consisting of four events and a one-off championship race, will visit five different provinces and span just over five months from February to July 2012.
The cross-country (XCO) format is fast and furious, and those lean and mean athletes who have been training hard during the December holidays and skipping out on the second helpings of the festive treats will be prepared for the challenges that lie ahead in 2012, the ‘Olympic Year’.
Nolan Hoffman and Bernard Esterhuizen turned in solid performances at the recent Beijing round of the 2011-2012 UCI Track Cycling World Cup presented by Samsung, the 3rd of the four leg series. The racing took place from 12th to 15th January.
First up was Nolan Hoffman in the 15 kilometer Scratch race. Nolan rode a very controlled heat to qualify comfortably for the final, this after being part of a 4-man breakaway who had lapped the bunch. He rode a very aggressive final featuring in one or two breakaway attempts and even doing the hard work to close a gap or two.
And you thought I had forgotten you…
Not even being hospitalised and doped up on morphine can stop me bringing you this weeks edition of Happy Friday!
Burry Stander, Cherise Taylor, David George, Kevin Evans, James Reid, Rourke Croeser and Myles Van Muschenbrook will all be lined up come Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd January in the KZN Time Trial and Road Cycling Championships.
Many of these names are mostly associated with mountain biking, but with full road closures and spectacular routes, these big guns of the MTB world could not pass up the opportunity to take up the road cycling challenge.
Top South African mountain biking duo, Kevin Evans and David George will be going solo the weekend of 10 -12 February 2012 when they take part in the inaugural Ride the Rock MTB Race in the beautiful wilderness area of the Cederberg.
This past Saturday I took part in the 10th annual Totalsports challenge as a two man team with paddling legend Paul Marais. We had a great day out in perfect conditions and came home in second place. Dan Hugo had a solid day out winning his 6th consecutive individual title, beating most of the teams in the process. Check out the race report from the individual race below.
Today is Friday the 13th, a day many people believe to be a day of bad luck. The fear of Friday the 13th is called paraskevidekatriaphobia, a mash up of the (mostly Greek) words “fear,” “13″ and “Friday.”
Lets embrace it, Happy Friday. Enjoy.
After five victories in Kleinmond, multi sport star Dan Hugo is still excited by the chance to take part in the Totalsports Challenge presented by New Balance and REHIDRAT® SPORT. Returning to Kleinmond on Saturday, 14 January 2012 participants can look forward to a sporting experience like no other.
