All Systems Go for 2012 MTB World Cup
Ticket sales are open and selling fast for the RockyRoads UCI Mountain Bike World Cup Pietermaritzburg, to be held at the Cascades Mountain Bike Park in less than two months.
Officials are on track to complete renovations to the world-famous facility well in time to be able to welcome the world’s best downhill and cross-country riders.

Stewart back to tame Addo
Returning mountain bike champion Brandon Stewart and team-mate Jacques Rossouw are set to resume their ongoing battle with Kevin Evans and David George at The Herald VW Cycle Tour in Addo just outside Port Elizabeth on Saturday, February 4.
Riding in the colours of Team FedGroup-Itec Connect, former South African cross-country champions Stewart and Rossouw are raring to go against the Nedbank 360Life pair.

KZN Road Champs Voted ‘Best Ever’ Road Championship
The KwaZulu-Natal provincial Road Cycling Championships, held in Durban and Westville at the weekend, has been hailed by participants as arguably the best ever Provincial or National championship they have ever ridden.
On Saturday the 21st January, the Time Trial was held on a circuit around the Durban Country Club. The course measured up to world standards that allowed the riders to really push their ability and at 8.5 kilometres, the circuit attracted high speeds.

SECOND COLUMBIA GRAPE ESCAPE ATTRACTS MAJOR LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL RIDERS
The second Columbia Grape Escape 3-day mountain bike stage race – due to take place in the Boland from 1-3 March – has already attracted the interest of major local and international mountain bike riders.
Three-time Absa Cape Epic winners Karl Platt and Stefan Sahm have confirmed their participation and are hoping to take top honours in the competitive two-rider team category.

National XCO and DH Series Calendar Confirmed
Cycling South Africa has confirmed the dates for the 2012 National Mountain Bike XCO and DH Series. The series, consisting of four events and a one-off championship race, will visit five different provinces and span just over five months from February to July 2012.
The cross-country (XCO) format is fast and furious, and those lean and mean athletes who have been training hard during the December holidays and skipping out on the second helpings of the festive treats will be prepared for the challenges that lie ahead in 2012, the ‘Olympic Year’.

SA Track Stars on Track in Beijing
Nolan Hoffman and Bernard Esterhuizen turned in solid performances at the recent Beijing round of the 2011-2012 UCI Track Cycling World Cup presented by Samsung, the 3rd of the four leg series. The racing took place from 12th to 15th January.
First up was Nolan Hoffman in the 15 kilometer Scratch race. Nolan rode a very controlled heat to qualify comfortably for the final, this after being part of a 4-man breakaway who had lapped the bunch. He rode a very aggressive final featuring in one or two breakaway attempts and even doing the hard work to close a gap or two.
