It’s Xterra fever in Cape Town (and South Africa) this weekend. The race just seems to grow and grow, and is now split over two days. I’m not sure why the Shongweni Dam leg in KZN never worked, because they probably have the most extensive off-road multisport calendar (maybe that’s the answer!). Totalsports have taken this over from sister store Due South and have the store footprint to leverage it further.
My apologies guys, productivity is out the window today. Seriously, Liz Hatch is just too hot. Still the most viewed Happy Friday posts ever. Enjoy round 4, Happy Friday!
Hilton based downhill mountain bike rider Tim Bentley is locked in a race against time to shake off a stubborn ’flu virus that is hampering his training and final preparations for the 2012 RockyRoads UCI MTB World Cup in Pietermaritzburg from 16th to 18th March.
Bentley is a team rider with the Hitchinson United Ride outfit that was founded at the Morewood bike factory and includes MTB downhill icon “Sick Mick” Hannah and his sister, former junior world champion Tracey Hannah, French junior ace Guillaume Cauvin and rider manager Fabien “CousCous” Cousinié.
After the shock withdrawal of Andrew Mclean, multiple South African marathon champion Shan Wilson is reverting to Plan B as he bids to win the three-day Garden Route Rocky Mountain 300 mountain bike race that starts in Knysna on Friday.
The Team Cycle Lab rider’s ambitions suffered a serious setback on Wednesday morning when his perennial team-mate Mclean announced that he had not yet recovered from an Achilles tendon injury and would be unable to race.
To win the MTN Tulbagh mountain bike ultra-marathon (105km) on Saturday (18 February), Burry Stander (Specialized) had to dig deep.
Going into the last few hundred metres Stander and Evans (Nedbank360Life) were racing shoulder to shoulder.
As they approached the line, Evans managed to edge slightly ahead of Stander on the inside and it seemed as if he might just take the victory.
Reigning 2011 XTERRA Grabouw Champions Dan Hugo (Stellenbosch, South Africa) and Carina Wasle (Austria) will have to keep their wits about them on Sunday, 26 February 2012 when they return to Grabouw Country Club to defend their titles at the 2012 Totalsports XTERRA South African Championship presented by REHIDRAT® SPORT.
Check out the highlights video from the 2011 Single Speed World Champs. Cant wait for the 2012 edition that is happening in Winterton, KZN in September. Its going to be awesome. Must be most colourful and manic cycling event on the calender. 3 days of partying!
