South Africa’s top mountain bikers will converge on Lourensford Wine Estate (Somerset West) on Friday, 09 November 2012 for the start of the much anticipated Contego Wines2Whales MTB Race powered by Maserati.
Amongst the masses battling for the top spot on the podium will be team RSAweb/CangoMTB’s Renay Groustra and Matthys Beukes.
Cycling SA reports that David George returned an adverse analytical finding in an out-of-competition test conducted by the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport (SAIDS) on 29 August 2012.
George is therefore provisionally suspended with immediate effect from competing in any event. The SAIDS process will now take its course.
Cycling South Africa respects the independence of the SAIDS process and will respect the outcome. Cycling SA further reiterates its zero-tolerance approach to doping in sport and confirms that there is no evidence of this being an endemic problem in the sport in South Africa.
Stage Three of the Contego Wines2Whales MTB Adventure powered by Maserati started off in cooler weather conditions at the Oak Valley Sport Field (Elgin) on Sunday, 04 November 2012. Teams of two set off to complete a 75km route (the longest of the three stages) before crossing the finish line in a picturesque Onrus.

The coordinators of the Cape Leopard Trust (CLT) Boland Project are pleased to announce that three Cape Leopards are continuing to make good use of the Contego Wines2Whales MTB routes. In September 2011 the organizers of the Contego Wines2Whales MTB Adventure and Race powered by Maserati showed their support of the CLT Boland Project by donating five digital camera traps to the project.
Reigning champion Brandon Stewart and new partner Neil MacDonald won the FedGroup Berg & Bush mountain bike race from the Harrismith area in the Free State to Winterton in KwaZulu-Natal by a whisker on Sunday after three days of close racing.
