Cadel Evans will not ride in his home ProTour event, the Tour Down Under, which takes place next month in South Australia.
Former world champion Evans and American veteran George Hincapie were members of the Team BMC lineup for last year’s race but neither has been included in the team named for the January 16-23 event. The 33-year-old Evans finished 6th in the event back in January. He is reportedly going to focus all his energies on winning an elusive Tour de France title. Team BMC’s 2011 lineup will be headed by 2008 world champion Alessandro Ballan of Italy and includes riders from six countries.
Seven-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong will headline this year’s Tour Down Under in what will be his last appearance in a professional stage race.
