Most people would be surprised to know the average modern bicycle consists of around 2000 bits and pieces. That is a lot especially considering that manufacturers would still like to impress you with components that are as light and attractive as possible.
However, not everyone needs to keep a critical eye on that average speed around the course or whether it will look OK on the back of the 4X4. Some of us are ‘’old school’’ or ‘’retro’’ or let’s face it, a little scared of the future. Well…. The future is single speed. Not only are fewer gears greener but also more reliable and totally in fashion.
Take the Avalanche Charge 10; Sturdy steel frame, alloy double wall wheels, sealed bottom bracket, forged aluminium cranks and powerful V-Brakes, it’s got it where it matters. No crunching gear shifts or chains flapping about, only quiet efficiency. The only sound is the wheels rolling effortlessly over the asphalt.
The simplicity of it lies in this: a comfortable speed commuting through the city or the back roads around your pad is about 16 – 25 K’s an hour. Faster is too scary and slower too relaxing, so, with only one gear you can concentrate on the wondrous sights our country has to offer, no cares about which gear you are in, is it wearing out, does the cable need replacing, am I pressing the right button, should I upgrade…etc…etc. Ride it , park it , ride it, Joy!
The Avalanche Charge 10 is distributed in South Africa by Dragons Sports.
